About the Program
“Nationwide, 20% of the elementary
school population is clearly struggling with reading, is at clear risk of
academic failure, and is in need of
remedial intervention or specialized
instruction; that is, 1 child in 5, or at
least 4 children per an average classroom of 20 children.” (Moats & Dakin,
2008)
“It (dyslexia) affects 80% of those
identified with learning disabilities…” (Lerner)
20Percenters equips educators to be
proficient in the structure of the English
language, preparing them to meet the
language needs of all students, in both
individual therapy and classroom settings.
The National Reading Panel’s research
made it clear that the best approach to
reading instruction is one that
incorporates:
• Explicit instruction in
phonemic awareness
• Systematic phonics
instruction
• Methods to improve
fluency
• Methods to enhance
comprehension
The 20Percenters Training Center has
developed a program that is research-based and follows the standards of the
Academic Language Therapy Association
(ALTA), International Dyslexia Association
(IDA), and International Multisensory
Structured Language Education Counsel
(IMSLEC).
